St. Michael’s Orthodox Church - Old Forge, PA  –  Official Parish Website

The services of Holy Friday center around Jesus Christ’s death on the Cross and His burial in the tomb. A special  burial shroud (plashtinitsa), with an icon depicting the body of our Lord, is placed atop a wooden tomb in the center of the church which is decorated with flowers. The faithful come to venerate the shroud until it is removed during the Nocturns of Pascha on Saturday night, just before the Paschal Service. The shroud is placed upon the altar where it will stay until the Feast of Ascension.
